Fennesz (Live)

Expansive, densely layered soundscapes wash over the listener like waves, evoking strong cinematic experiences of rainforests, vast mountain ranges, or atmospheric currents.

Fennesz is a pioneer and an essential voice in the contemporary development of electronic music and ambient. By digitally transforming and manipulating his guitar sound, he has succeeded in creating a distinctive sonic signature that is hard to mistake for anyone else’s.

Emotionally charged and influenced by nature—sometimes even romantic—Fennesz balances between feelings of euphoria and melancholy.

At BIMHUIS, Fennesz will perform his latest solo album Mosaic (2024), which draws on a range of influences: from rock structures and 1980s African pop songs to unconventional time signatures. The title refers to an old method of image-making, where each new element forms interconnected and unexpected relationships with its surroundings. It’s an album in which the raw character of the guitar once again takes center stage.

About the artist

Fennesz achieved international breakthrough with his third milestone album Endless Summer (2001), followed by Venice (2014), in which he combined ambient-rich sound textures with elements of pop music. After various releases, Agora (2019) presented a subtle and highly detailed listening experience of expansive sonic forces.
