Sara Persico & Mika Oki present Sphaîra (Live A/V)
Sat May 31 | de Brakke Grond
Sphaîra is an immersive sensory experience designed for deep contemplation. This audiovisual performance invites spectators to lose themselves within a journey of drone-like soundscapes supported by a hypnotic light scenography. During FIBER Festival, Sara Persico will present her latest album Sphaîra, which features field recordings from an experimental concrete theatre in Tripoli, northern Lebanon. This impressive dome structure serves as a focal point where the sounds of chaotic Tripoli echo alongside noises reminiscent of the underground or underwater. The architect envisioned the concrete theatre as a place of social and political integration, open to all. However, Lebanon’s civil war left the site abandoned, and was later used for executions and torture by militant groups.
The audiovisual interpretation of the album aims to recreate the dome's energy, using dense light scenography and sound storytelling to transport the audience inside the structure itself. The core of Sphaîra lies in its dynamic visual component. The performance employs fractal and abstract imagery, gradually evolving in a mesmerising dance of light and form. The use of stroboscopic effects enhances this experience, causing the audience to wonder if what they see is part of the performance or a creation of their own visual processing. This experience blurs the lines between reality and imagination, making Sphaîra a unique exploration of light, form, and consciousness.
