Genre-busting, energy-driven aural narratives, full of unexpected twists and turns. Rotterdam-born and based DJ, audiovisual artist and graphic designer Soft Break is heavily inspired by her early encounters with Rotterdam’s jungle, dubstep and grime scene. Her DJ sets move through gentle vocals, percussion, hard drums, footwork, hip hop and sub destroying bass.
Through her work in music, design, and art, she aims to highlight Black Dutch representations in archives and questions notions of memory, identity, space and time. As one of the founders, Soft Break collaborates often with AMPFEMININE, a collective curating mixes by femme-identifying DJ’s, booking talent, hosting events and parties. Throughout a variety of outstanding sets, she’s steadily rising.
About the artist
Soft Break has performed and talked on panels regarding feminism, spatiality of social relations and queers politics at institutions such as Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Het Nieuwe Instituut. Graduated from No Shade DJ Mentoring Program 2020 in Berlin, Soft Break wowed crowds at Dekmantel Festival, De School, Rolling Loud, Vandalized, SPIELRAUM, Rewire Festival, DGTL, CTM, RSO.Berlin, Boiler Room, COLORS, POING, Venice Biennale of Architecture and Dekmantel Selectors, just to name a few.
