Sound Art Sunday
Performances by Dutch and Belgian sound artists
Sunday June 2 | de Brakke Grond
For a second time, the Sound Art Sunday will give wide exposure to sound art performances by artists from the Netherlands and Belgium. Expect a series of short acts, and one longer hybrid performance, at the intersection of sound, installation art, instrument design, dance and theatre in different rooms of the Brakke Grond.
During Anouk Kellner's performance, called Airchoir No. 1, you experience an ever-changing soundscape that shifts depending on the visitor's position in the space. Eight inflatables breathe in and out like living lungs, and make their voices heard through the eight organ pipes they are connected to. Éclipsis by Vica Pacheco is a performance piece that mixes music, dance, and an interactive, ceramic garden of sculptures. It is a sonic exploration for the balance between light and dark. Diane Mahín closes the day with GRUNT, where you will meet a woman who communicates solely through growling. The growler navigates various moods, portraying what seems to be an urgent story to be told or an intimate conversation to be held.
More performances will be announced soon.
This programme is linked to the Neighbouring Frequencies – a new platform that supports the presentation and exchange of sound art between the Netherlands and Belgium. Many thanks to STUK (Leuven), de Brakke Grond, Kunstenpunt, DutchCulture and the Embassy of the Kingdom of The Netherlands for their collaboration and support.
