Are you interested in experimental sound practices and artificial intelligence? Then don’t miss the Open Lab day of the Wilding AI project, happening on Thursday May 29 at the 4DSOUND studio at Contact Amsterdam. The international project makes a stop in Amsterdam after Montréal, Mexico City and Berlin. You will get the chance to immerse yourself in sound for a day, experience work-in-progress, and meet and exchange with other professionals working at the intersection of (spatial) sound, AI, software and composition.

What is the Open Lab?

As part of FIBER Festival 2025, the Wilding AI project invites artistic makers and thinkers to join the one-day Open Lab. It’s a public demo day showcasing the latest developments from the Wilding AI team’s three-day residency at 4DSOUND. Building on previous editions at MUTEK Montréal, MUTEK Mexico and CTM Festival 2025, where the team has been developing new approaches to AI-driven sound creation, this edition will allow the team to deepen their experiments in spatial sound. They invite you to engage directly with the Wilding AI team, hear about their latest explorations, experience live demonstrations, as well as discuss your own projects and questions around the topic in a collaborative setting.

What is Wilding AI?

This project will follow artist and researcher Dr. Beth Coleman’s appeal to imagine an AI “that can be free - if not to imagine then to generate - speeding through possibilities, junctures that are idiotic until they are not”. In Amsterdam, this exploration will take a new dimension through its integration with 4DSOUND, an innovative spatial audio platform that lets artists position and move sounds freely across the listening space, offering flexible creative possibilities for spatial synthesis composition, and performance. By engaging with this technology, artists will explore new methods of composition, improvisation, and experimentation in collaboration with AI.

The Open Lab will be a space for exchange and hands-on exploration with the Wilding AI team. Curator, artist, and researcher Maurice Jones, who has co-developed Wilding AI across multiple international residencies, guides the lab’s thematic framework. Artist and technologist Alexandre Saunier explores the intersection of light, sound, and machine learning. Pía Baltazar, sound artist and researcher, works with AI and spatial audio to craft new modes of storytelling in her practice. Rounding up the team, Debashis Sinha investigates AI-generated sound through the lens of cultural and sonic histories.

Following their residency at 4DSOUND, this Open Lab offers a rare opportunity to engage with their process, hear about their latest experimentations, and contribute to the evolving conversation around AI-assisted sound creation.
